I am Chad Price, an orthopedic surgeon in Nashville, TN at Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics. I specialize in treating shoulder pain, hip pain, and knee pain.
What Made You Want to Become an Orthopedic Surgeon?
I grew up here locally in Rutherford county then went to college at the University of Tennessee. After doing some volunteer work at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital, I decided I was going to pursue a career in medicine.
Once you get into medical, you start figuring out a more specific medical career path. I knew I wanted to be a surgeon, and looking at the different types of surgery, orthopedics fit me the best.
Why Is Orthopedics Important to You?
Orthopedics is a field of medicine where you can take someone with a problem, offer them the help they need, and then get them back to the activities they love. That really means a lot to me and makes the job worthwhile.
How Did You Choose Sports Medicine as Your Subspeciality?
When you get into orthopedic residency, you begin sorting out which areas are of interest to you.
For me, I felt that sports medicine fit my personality the best. It is a subspeciality within orthopedics that captures many parts of the body. I specialize in surgery of the shoulder, hip, and knee.
What Surgical Procedures Do You Perform?
There are too many to list. Some of the more common procedures I do are rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, and labral repairs.
That entails working with a wide age group and people with many different kinds of problems.
What Do You Enjoy about Being a Sports Medicine Doctor?
Sports medicine really encompasses all walks of life. I see a range of patients from professional athletes to people who have simply fallen in their kitchen.
What Makes Elite the Best Orthopedic Clinic in Nashville, TN?
It is amazing how much we can rely on our partners here at Elite when our patients come to us with problems we do not treat.
For example, subspecializing in sports medicine means that I have chosen to receive additional training and years of expertise in treating shoulder, hip, and knee pain.
I love having the best orthopedic surgeons in Tennessee in the same building as me, so my patients with foot, hand, spine, or other conditions can receive the excellent care they need.
In my eyes, we are the best ortho clinic in Nashville.
What is the Most Rewarding Part About Being an Orthopedic Surgeon?
It is about making people better – whether that is an ankle sprain or a complex surgical problem.
The successes I am most proud of are patients that come in with a difficult problem. You give them several options, and together, you choose a treatment path you think works best. It is coordinated care experience that is truly unique to each patient.
It is incredible following along with their treatment plan and watching them get better.
Are There Any Success Stories That Stand Out?
One of my recent patients that just got back to playing basketball comes to mind.
They came to Elite heading into their senior year of high school. Unfortunately, the patient had a torn ACL from summer ball. It was an emotional experience as it was looking like they may miss the remainder of their high school basketball career.
On the first visit, we sat down with the patient and their parents, and we set goals we thought were reasonable.
We completed an ACL reconstruction, and since then, they have worked their tail off. They got the physical therapy and personal training needed to get back on the court. We approach the end of the season, and they are now back on the court and get to play in Senior Night.
That was our goal.
What Can Patients Expect from Dr. Price as Their Sports Medicine Doctor?
Patients can expect that I will listen to what they have to say. I am going to tell you pretty directly how it is.
I want people to understand what they are up against and what the treatment is going to require. We will review the risks and the benefits of each treatment option together. Sometimes a non-surgical approach is more appropriate to fix your problem.
The end goal will always be to get my patients back to what they love to do.
How Is Elite Different from Various Other Orthopedic Clinics in Nashville?
Elite sets itself apart as our orthopedic doctors are subspecialized to treat specific conditions. They are all excellent at what they do. We do not take a general approach to orthopedic surgery.
I think we can help patients more effectively that way.
