About Dr. Crosby
Samuel Crosby, MD, specializes in orthopedic surgery of the hand and upper extremity for adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Crosby currently sees patients at the Midtown and Centennial Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics locations in Nashville and the Cool Springs office in Franklin, Tennessee.
After graduating from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Dr. Crosby earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Tennessee. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, followed by a hand and upper extremity fellowship at Harvard University. Dr. Crosby’s work experience includes Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital.
At Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics, Dr. Crosby specializes in treating sports-related injuries, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, nerve compression syndrome, congenital hand deformities, adult and pediatric fractures, arthritis, joint replacement, Dupuytren’s contracture, trigger fingers, ganglion cysts, and work-related injuries.
Dr. Crosby has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2024. He is board certified and has an additional subspecialty certificate in orthopedic surgery of the hand, issued by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Contessa Wood, a Physician Assistant (PA-C), received her Master of Science in Medicine from Trevecca Nazarene University. Prior to completing her graduate studies in medicine, Contessa attended Austin Peay University, graduating with a Master of Science in Biology. Contessa works primarily with Dr. Samuel N. Crosby, specializing in the surgery of the hand and upper extremity. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two daughters, riding horses, and reading.
Sam Huntsman, PA-C, MPAS, ATC

Tennessee native, Sam Huntsman earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at South College in Nashville. During PA school, she was Class President of her Cohort, awarded PA Student of the Year, and inducted into the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for Physician Assistants. In addition to having her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies, she earned a Master’s in Kinesiology at Southern Illinois University. Prior to completing her graduate studies, Sam attended Union University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Before becoming a Physician Assistant at Elite Sports Medicine, Sam worked with Dr. Crosby as a Clinical Assistant and Athletic Trainer for 4 years. In her free time, Sam enjoys being outside, traveling, hiking, kayaking, and landscaping.
