About Dr. Desai
Orthopedic surgeon Mihir J. Desai, M.D. FAOA specializes in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery. Dr. Desai sees patients at Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics’ Midtown, Green Hills, Brentwood, and Franklin locations.
Dr. Desai earned his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he graduated cum laude. He completed his orthopedic surgery internship and residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, before completing a fellowship in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Dr. Desai is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery. He has extensive experience treating conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and upper extremity, including fractures, tendon and nerve injuries, arthritis, complex trauma, and peripheral nerve conditions.
Before joining Elite, Dr. Desai served as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He joins Elite after 11 years in practice, bringing a strong reputation for clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and community trust.
During his time at Vanderbilt, he held several leadership roles, including Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship Director and Director of the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Clinic and Ambulatory Surgery Center in Franklin. He has also been actively involved in resident and fellow education, national orthopedic committees, and professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Association for Hand Surgery, and American Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Desai also served a six-year term on the Board of Trustees for the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Desai has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and research presentations focused on hand and upper extremity surgery, peripheral nerve injuries, fracture care, tendon reconstruction, wrist and elbow conditions, and surgical outcomes. He has also presented nationally and internationally on advanced hand and upper extremity topics.
In addition to his clinical, academic, and research work, Dr. Desai has been involved in community outreach efforts, including surgical care for Nashville’s uninsured patient population through Hand Outreach Day and international outreach through the Touching Hands Project.
Dr. Desai has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor each year since 2024.

Zoie Green is a certified Physician Assistant who grew up in Johnson City, TN. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Lipscomb University. Zoie began her career working in an orthopedic clinic, where she gained hands-on experience for two years prior to joining Elite. Zoie was drawn to healthcare through her desire to make a direct impact on others’ lives. With a passion for building relationships and helping patients return to the activities they love, she finds orthopedic care especially rewarding for its hands-on nature and the opportunity to see real, tangible results. Outside of work, Zoie enjoys walking her dog, spending time with family and friends, cooking, reading, and practicing hot yoga.
