About Dr. Weldy
Dr. John Weldy, MD is an orthopedic physician at Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics with advanced training in sports medicine. Dr. Weldy sees patients at the Green Hills, Franklin, and Brentwood locations.
He completed his fellowship in Sports Medicine at the renowned American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Weldy completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he served in multiple leadership roles and received several academic and clinical honors.
Originally from Mississippi, Dr. Weldy earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Mississippi, graduating magna cum laude. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Throughout his training, Dr. Weldy developed a strong interest in the treatment of athletes and active individuals. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on orthopedic trauma, joint replacement, sports injuries, and surgical biomechanics. He has presented his research at national meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Dr. Weldy is an active member of several professional organizations, including the AAOS, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society.
Outside of the office, Dr. Weldy values spending time with his family. He enjoys sports, offshore fishing, hunting, backpacking, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. He is passionate about helping patients return to similar activities they love.
