JOB SUMMARY:
Prepares patients to see the physician, facilitates lab, diagnostic tests and other paperwork as needed, supports physician in clinic and schedules surgery.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent preferred
Medical assisting training required
Experience performing lab tests and handling lab paperwork
Experience calling in pharmacy requests
Experience scheduling surgeries and diagnostic testing
Clinical support responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Greets patients and escorts them from the reception room to the exam room; prepares patients for exam and/or treatment as directed by physician
Returns patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; documents action taken in patient /medical record
Triages incoming telephone calls as needed; instructs patient and family regarding treatment instructions, then documents action taken in patient/medical record
Telephones or faxes prescription requests to pharmacy as needed; documents action in patient chart and obtains physician signature of approval
Prepares electronic chart for physicians when patient is ready in exam room
Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
Assists providers in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
Pre-certifies surgical and other procedures as requested or directed. Aids pre-certification staff by providing information that is thorough, accurate, pertinent and timely.
Understands surgery scheduling process in order to function as a back-up to primary scheduler. This includes scheduling surgeries with appropriate facility, and records information in Practice Management System and Physician’s Outlook Calendar
Schedules tests and off-site procedures when necessary
Communicates physician referral requests to referral staff for processing
Performs patient education when appropriate
