PRN Clinical Assistant and Outreach Athletic Trainer

Do you enjoy being where the action is and treating young athletes on the field? What about patient interaction and education in a clinical setting? Do you enjoy orthopedics and staying current on cutting-edge techniques? Would you like a position that encompasses all of that (and more!)? If you answered YES, we’re looking for a caring and attentive athletic trainer to work with us part time as needed, spending some time with athletes at a local high school and some time with our outstanding team of Clinical Assistants who are passionate about what they do (and most importantly, who they do it for)!

In the Outreach Athletic Trainer capacity, you will provide onsite coverage for first aid and treatment at athletic practices and games for a local high school, as well as provide prevention, assessment and treatment of athletic injuries. In the Clinical Assistant capacity, you will prepare patients to see the physician; support a physician and/or midlevel in clinic and facilitate lab, diagnostic tests and other paperwork as needed.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited University is required. Master’s Degree in Athletic Training is preferred
  • NATA – BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Athletic Trainer must be licensed in the state of Tennessee
  • CPR certification required
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and administer appropriate modalities
  • Knowledge in exercise physiology, biomechanics, and exercise prescription
  • Working knowledge of taping and other preventive techniques


Outreach Athletic Training Responsibilities:

  • Must treat athletes under the direction of a physician, and only treat within their scope of expertise
  • Coverage of daily practices, to include set-up, treatments and preventative care
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of injuries
  • Contact physicians for direction of care, when needed
  • Assist Athletic Director as needed
  • Act as liaison between physicians, specialist, school, athletes and their parents as needed

Clinical Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients and escorts them from the reception room to the exam room; prepares patients for exam and/or treatment as directed by physician
  • Returns patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; documents action taken in patient medical record
  • Triages incoming telephone calls as needed; instructs patient and family regarding treatment instructions, then documents action taken in patient/medical record
  • Telephones or faxes prescription requests to pharmacy as needed; documents action in patient chart and obtains physician signature of approval
  • Prepares electronic chart for physicians when patient is ready in exam room
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
  • Assists providers in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
  • Schedules tests and off-site procedures when necessary
  • Performs patient education when appropriate
